R. Kimberly Grigsby, Esq. is an attorney, nonprofit strategist, investigator, and arts advocate with more than two decades of leadership experience spanning law, government, cultural institutions, education, and nonprofit management. She currently serves as Lead Consultant and Attorney at RK Grigsby Law, where she advises nonprofit organizations, arts institutions, educational entities, and community-based organizations on governance, compliance, investigations, strategic planning, fundraising, and organizational sustainability. She formerly served as First Deputy Commissioner and Chief Compliance Officer for the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, where she oversaw strategic operations, compliance initiatives, public programming, grants management, and cross-sector partnerships supporting one of the nation’s largest municipal cultural agencies.
Kim’s legal career began in South Carolina, where she served as a prosecuting State’s Attorney for the South Carolina Department of Children and Family Services, advocating on behalf of vulnerable children and families in highly sensitive matters involving abuse, neglect, and family welfare. Following her service with the state, she established her own private law practice, RK Grigsby Law, where she focused on family law, nonprofit counsel, governance, investigations, and strategic advisory services.
Her work in private practice garnered the attention of renowned Illinois family law attorney Jeffrey Leving, nationally recognized for his advocacy in the Elian Gonzalez international custody matter. Kim collaborated with Leving on several high-profile family law matters involving complex custody, parental rights, and high-net-worth family disputes. During this period, she represented numerous high-net-worth individuals while continuing to advocate for the protection and well-being of children and families navigating the court system.
In addition to her legal advocacy, Kim has long championed equitable access to justice within family court systems. She worked alongside Jeffrey Leving in support of fathers’ advocacy initiatives and assisted in advancing efforts aimed at ensuring fathers and men receive equal access and representation in family court proceedings. She also supported the work of Leving’s nonprofit organization, Dads’ Rights. Building upon this commitment, RK Grigsby Law launched a companion initiative, Fathers’ Rights of the Lowcountry, focused on education, advocacy, and support services for fathers and families navigating the legal system.
Ms. Grigsby has conducted and overseen investigations involving allegations of workforce discrimination, sexual assault, discriminatory practices, harassment, retaliation, misconduct, policy violations, employee relations concerns, and other sensitive institutional matters requiring neutrality, discretion, and trauma-informed practices. She has worked extensively with educational institutions, governmental agencies, and nonprofit organizations to assess complaints, review evidence, interview witnesses, and provide findings and recommendations designed to mitigate institutional risk while ensuring fairness, equity, and due process.
In these capacities, Ms. Grigsby managed and participated in investigations involving student affairs, workforce discrimination claims, sexual misconduct allegations, employee relations matters, compliance concerns, institutional conduct matters, child welfare matters, and organizational risk assessments requiring careful factual review and legally sound analysis.
Ms. Grigsby is also certified in Mediation and Arbitration and has extensive experience facilitating conflict resolution, negotiated settlements, and organizational problem-solving in emotionally charged and legally sensitive environments. Her interdisciplinary background uniquely bridges law, public service, behavioral health advocacy, arts administration, cultural preservation, compliance, and institutional investigations.
Kim’s most recent focus, both in her educational pursuits and executive leadership opportunities, has further honed her capabilities as an Art Law practitioner. Her work at the intersection of law, arts administration, cultural heritage, nonprofit governance, and public service has allowed her to manage the operations and legal affairs of organizations that are local, national, and international in scope. Through this work, she has advised institutions on governance, compliance, cultural stewardship, strategic partnerships, operational management, and organizational sustainability within increasingly complex legal and cultural environments.
Beyond her litigation and investigative work, Kim has spent the last decade advising nonprofit organizations, arts institutions, educational entities, and community-based organizations on governance, compliance, strategic planning, fundraising, operations, and organizational sustainability.
Kim earned her Juris Doctor from Howard University School of Law and her Bachelor of Arts from Spelman College. She is also pursuing an LL.M. in Cultural Heritage and Art Law at DePaul University, further deepening her work at the intersection of law, culture, and public service.

Our team brings decades of experience managing sensitive investigations, navigating complex compliance matters, conducting trauma-informed reviews, and supporting organizations facing high-risk operational and reputational challenges.
Our investigative approach is centered on identifying the root cause of issues rather than solely focusing on the incident at hand. We believe effective investigations require a comprehensive understanding of organizational culture, operational dynamics, compliance structures, behavioral health considerations, reporting systems, and institutional practices that may contribute to workplace conflict, misconduct, discrimination, retaliation, or systemic concerns. In addition to conducting thorough factual investigations, we provide consultative analysis designed to help organizations understand the broader landscape of internal and organizational matters, identify institutional vulnerabilities, strengthen compliance practices, mitigate future risk, and implement sustainable solutions.
Our work is grounded in professionalism, neutrality, cultural competency, confidentiality, and a commitment to equitable and thorough investigative practices
